The Most Wonderful Time of the Year?

April 23, 2008 at 12:26 pm (food) (, , )

The weather has turned absolutely beautiful up here in New England. And we deserve it, after the long winter we had that felt like it went on for three years…

But when the weather turns nice, the air smells clean, a can walk across my new carpet with my bare feet and not feel like I’m walking on a polar ice cap…well, then it becomes one of my favorite times of the year.

Know why?

Huh? Do you? Do you, huh?

This is why!!

BTW, check out my new toy. In an effort to get away from lighter fluid, I went to Target and got myself a chimney starter. Good god, does this thing work fantastic!

Today’s Menu – 4/22/08

April 23, 2008 at 12:24 pm (diet, food) (, , )

So, in effort to keep myself honest in preparation for my race, here is what I consumed:

  • 1 8oz glass of OJ (w/ one multivitamin)
  • Coffee with sweetener (about half of my coffee today was caf, the other half decaf)
  • 1 slice of banana bread
  • 1 banana
  • 1 salad of baby spinach leaves with some fat grape tomatoes, half a plain grilled chicken breast (about 5 oz), and some bleu cheese dressing
  • 1 apple
  • 1 small mixture of Planter’s Heart Healthy nuts and some raisin.
  • 2 diet cokes (1 caf-free, 1 not)
  • 1 mug of tea with 3 spoonfuls of sugar and a little bit of half n half
  • several glasses of water

…and then there was dinner…

  • 4 pieces of chicken (2 thighs, 2 drumsticks)
  • 2 (small) helpings of garlic mashed potatoes
  • 2 slices of coffee cake
  • 1 slice of banana bread

I swear, the moment the breads are out of the house, I’m not making any more, cause they are killing me. At least the chicken is protein. The cakes are just flour, sugar, butter, more butter, even more butter…

Training Impediments

April 22, 2008 at 10:30 am (Running, food) (, , )

I have found what is likely to be to the biggest impediment to my training for a 5K and losing some weight.

Food!

Apparently, I just love to eat. And with my recent fascination with cooking, that is not helping the situation at all. Take, for example, the following items:

These are a banana bread and a sour cream coffee cake. Both of which are marvelous. So naturally, I had to have two piece of each last night before bed.

This is going to be tough, but I might have an idea.

I plan to post my daily food intake here. That way, I have a records of it and any and all who see it can leave comments like “well, with you’re going to eat fifteen homemade meringue cookies in a sitting, you’re probably not going to lose any weight.”

So there you are. My first (make that second) day of training is complete, and my food intake for today is to follow shortly.
